Do I need a Beverage floor?

To know if you need a Beverage Floor lets explain what is a beverage floor?

A Beverage floor is a heavy duty floor for a rigid truck body designed to handle the heavy pallet loadings common in beverage truck body builds and the point loads created from electronic pallet jacks. The floor gets this extra strength through the running of stringers under the floor reducing the gap where the floor sheet is unsupported. Other benefits include a lowering of vehicle floor height and simpler integration of internal load restraint mechanisms.

But as always there is a cost associated with this, as beverage floors are more expensive to manufacture and can cost more while the adding of stringers can increase body weight.

So back to our original question do you need a beverage floor? This comes down to what you are transporting;

  • Is the load a heavy palletised loads, generally classed as greater than 1,000kg dynamic load.
  • Is the load point loaded on to the floor, as a point load can result in greater wear on the floor.
  • Are you using an electronic pallet jack to load and unload the body, if so the stringers help ensure the pallet jacks wheels are directly supported and not just onto the floor sheet.
  • Do you need a lower floor height, a beverage floor can lead to a 75mm drop in floor height leading to easier loading and unloading of the body.

But what about the consequences, I cant afford a dearer body, I cant carry extra weight I’m already at GVM. This is where Cooks makes the difference our investment in CNC machinery means we can save labour and material lowering manufacture costs and ultimately body price. While with the same machinery we can save weight through the removal of non important materials, or the better use materials to offset the extra weight of the stringers.
